Wuhan Metro is the urban rail transit system serving Wuhan City in Hubei Province, China. Its first line, Wuhan Metro Line 1, commenced operations on July 28, 2004, making Wuhan the first city in central China to launch a rail transit system. As of December 2017, the Wuhan Metro operated a total of 7 lines, including Lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 (Yangluo Line), with a total of 167 stations and a total line length of 237 kilometers, ranking 7th in mainland China in terms of line length. As of December 2017, Wuhan's urban rail transit system had 16 lines (sections) under construction, including the Line 2 South Extension, Caidian Line, Line 5, Phase 1 of Line 7, Zhifang Line, Phase 2 of Line 8, Phase 3 of Line 8, Phase 1 of the Eastern Section of Line 11, Phase 2 of the Eastern Section of Line 11, Line 12, and the Qianchuan Line, with a total construction mileage of 360 kilometers. By 2020, Wuhan's urban rail transit system will consist of 11 lines with a total length of 401 kilometers, forming a basic “main city interconnected, new city connected” urban rail transit network system.
